Bought a DVD recorder. Hard drive. Sony. The booklet says (on front) RDR-HXD770/HXD970/HXD1070. - If that means anything!

So far have connected it to TV ok, so far haven't managed to record a b....y thing. Thought I could record on the hard drive.

HELP! What am I doing wrong?

  1. For blank discs, any DVDs should be fine.

DVD-R means Recordable DVDs.  You can record on it once (ie, make a disc) then only watch.  You cannot edit, add, delete, etc.  These discs are cheaper than DVD-RW discs.  You should buy lots of these for things that you want to record once and keep, such as your favourite films or documentaries.

DVD-RW means Rewritable DVDs.  These are quite expensive but you can add more, delete or edit these.  You might want to buy a few of these to keep your programmes on until you watch them, or to transfer from one DVD player to another.  You can then delete and re-use afterwards.

Regarding pre-recorded DVDs, any DVD is fine as long as it is the same region format as your DVD player.

    I hope this is helpful.
