  1. Cats all react differently when introducing a new friend.  My advice is to do it slowly.  Isolate the new kitten and only have supervised play times. Since he is a kitten most likely he will accept the new kitten.  And just as an fyi, cats only urinate out of the box when there is a medical condition. ie. uti or bladder infection.

  2. why not cats take care of themselves

as long as u give them the attention when you come home all should be well

a cat may not ike the other cat but if u just give it time they will get used 2 each other

  3. you shouldn't get another kitten if you will not be able to give it attention kittens have differen't personalites so your kitten may accept a new arrival but if he doesn't make sure you have someone ready to sell the new kitten off to

  4. If you wait until he is neutered and then get him a female friend you will have a great chance of success.  Neutered cats don't typically spray or try to mark any territory and a male/female match is less likely to cause a ruckus than a male/male match.

When you bring the new kitten home, make sure she is in a pet carrier.  This will allow your cat to sniff and check her out safely.  There may be some arching of backs or other defensiveness in which case you will want to give them a little time to get to know each other before setting the newbie free.  On the other hand, they may happily rub against the carrier and be thrilled to have a friend right away!

    Good luck!

  5. At 5 months, you cat is still a child therefore he does not need to assert his domination yet. He still only thinks about playing, hunting and eating. Dominance behavior normally comes in play at around 8-9 months where he will not accept another cat as easily as now. That's the best time to introduce another cat. There will be growling, hissing and maybe fighting but they will be less important. It is important to let them sort things out if they do fight. Let them establish who's the boss and everything will run smoothly. Too many people separate their cats when they fight and that causes a lot of problem as cats needs to establish the dominance ladder in a house. Don't worry, cat fights are impressive but rarely Harmfull.

That being said, I must stress something : Your cat WILL NOT feel lonely if you let him alone during the day. Cats are solitary creatures. In the wild, a cat will go his life alone rarely socializing with other cat. Furthermore, cats do not percieve time as we do. If you leave for 1 hour it will be same as if you leave for 7 hours. Time for cat is perceive in "routine way". In other words, your cat is timed on a routine and often that routine is thight to you. He knows that when the sun comes up, you also get up, go to the bathroom, pet him, feed him, go to school comes back when sun is halfway down...etc. For him it's a chain of events that determine time. If your cat welcome you when you get home, it's not because he knows it's 4h00pm but he knows that when you come back he gets feed right after.

Having another cat serves no purpose if it's for him not to feel lonely. But having a friend to play with will increase his physical activity, his psychological awarness if you don't have a lot of time to play with him. In that sense it is a good thing.

But the main reason for having another cat is....for you pleasure!
