A crate with a mass of 150 kg is placed on soft ground that sinks under the weight of the box at 0.5 m/s2. How much force is the box exerting on the ground? (g=10 m/s 2.

Also, a file cabinet weighing 1500 N is at rest on the floor. The co efficient of static friction between the floor and cabinet is 0.5. What is the minimum force required to make the file cabinet move horizontally?

WOw. Thanks!

  1. F=ma

    F=150 kg X (gravity - rate crate sinks)

    F= 150 X(10-0.5) = 1425 N

    COF = tangent force/normal force

    COF=(force req to move it/ weight)

    0.5=(force req to move it/ 1500N)

    Force req to move it is 750 N.
