Another optional claimer for Boys at Tosconova before he takes on the big boys
There aren’t any bigger races for Boys at Tosconova at the moment, as he continues his comeback from an ankle injury that sidelined the 3-year-old for almost 11 months. He was expected to do much more in his sophomore season after a bright debut season, one where he won the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes and then turned in a massive second place finish to Uncle Mo in the Grey Goose Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
However, trainer Richard Dutrow is helping his injury stricken colt’s career back on track by giving him allowance and optional claimers to get back into the groove for the big races, which the colt seems to be lacking in at the moment.
It’s a circumspect approach, but definitely an effective one, and right now Jay Em Ess Stable and Partners owned 3-year-old colt, Boys at Tosconova, is pointed toward an optional claiming allowance feature at Gulfstream Park on 23 December, 2011.
Racing lightly in the year 2011 due to his injury, Boys at Tosconova will now be looking to be a major player in the 4-year-old division next year. With 2011 coming to an end, Boys at Tosconova will look to get his form back.
The Kentucky bred son of Officer, out of mare Little Bonnet by Coronado’s Quest, Boys at Tosconova made his comeback to the races in a seven furlong long optional claimer at Belmont Park, where he finished third to the winner, Tapizar, on 8 October, 2011.
Now he is exiting off a victory in another optional claimer at about six and a half furlongs at Aqueduct race track on 11 November, 2011, where he went on to defeat Hillswick in second, and Starforaday in third position, while covering the distance in 1 minute and 17.46 seconds.
Dutrow wanted to give Boys at Tosconova an early taste of the stakes' races, but pulled him out because he was running his other runner, Trickmeister, in it, who won the race at the end.
“I hate running my horses against each other,” said Dutrow. “If he (Boys At Tosconova) shows up the way we want him to, and the way he’s been training, then we can point him to bigger races”.
