Question:

Another potty training question? toilet?

My son is 2 going on 3 years old. We started training him last December, maybe 3 months ago it seemed he caught on. He was telling us ever time he had to use that bathroom. Then, that just came to a complete halt...he periodically tells us now it's usually when he has to have a bowel movement. He now urinates part time in the toilet, with us taking him. He's rewarded every time with stickers & praise, but he doesn't seem to care. What else can we do??

  1. Probably the novelty wore off and now he's too busy to bother. If you can take him and get him to go most of the time that's all you can do until he starts getting back to doing it on his own.

  2. You can't wait for him to tell you he needs to go - kids often get too caught up in playing to bother going to the bathroom.  You need to be more active and tell him that it's time to use the potty - have him sit on the potty at least every 1 1/2 - 2 hours, within 1 hour after meals, and right after waking up in the morning/after nap  :)

  3. You can reward him with candy like m and m's or skittles.
