Question:

Another problem with breast feeding? :(?

So my son is 6 months (yaay) I told myself I will at least make it to that mark. Anywhoo back to the question. I thought I was developing thrush, since my right breast was getting itchy the last week or so. And now my right nipple hurts so much. If that's the side I start out on he seems to pull at it and won't be interested in eating from it, which at that point I'm almost in tears because it hurts so much. If I start out on my left side and switch after my let down already has happened then he'll take it without too much pulling. I don't think its thrush anymore as its only the one side. I want to continue breastfeeding as long as I can but he's making it so difficult.

It doesn't help that my fiance and my son are sick, I'm starting my girly stuff and I'm just so UGH. Help?

  1. why dont you pump and start feeding him bottles instead? if you are in so much pain? and slowly over the next few months he will start eating solid foods and eventually wont need the breast milk anymore because it will not be enough to sustain him.

  2. You could express and try him on a bottle, or you could slowly transition him onto formula. But you should go to the doctor because pain while breast feeding isnt normal if your baby has a proper latch. You may have mastitus, go get checked just to put your mind at ease. I hope breastfeeding becomes easier for you soon!

  3. Try taking a hot shower and letting the water run over your breast for a few minutes, then begin to massage it while still letting the water flow over it. I hope this helps a little

  4. your cycle and definitely make your nipples more sensitive.

are there any spots or bumps on your nipple?  is there any evidence of thrush in your son's mouth?
