i'm still making a 12x12 patio. not a deck with privacy c**p. i like my neighbors and they can use my patio if they please. i'm not trying to hide from them or the sun for that matter. so simply answer my question and be done.(:

one person from my last question said to put wood around the outside, but wouldn't that attract bugs? i mean more so that the stone? is there something else i could use? or do i really need that at all?

what is this mix that is like sand but hardens so ants won't tunnel through it?

Has anyone bought these patio bricks and likes ones from certain stores or which store has the cheapest bricks?

  1. Theodore is right, bugs won't eat pressure treated wood and it makes a great frame for your patio blocks. As for the sub base, you can use a mixture of half sand and half mortar mix. and add a small amount of water so that clumps form up. Just so that when you take a handful and close your fist it compacts, this is call surfaced saturated dry condition. Spread it in the patio area and level using a 2x4 to the desired thickness and set your patio block in it. once your blocks are in place let it set over night, protect from bad weather, plastic sheeting should be fine. It should harden over night. The following day make another batch and sweep it in between the blocks.
