Question:

Another question on swimming caps?

According to some feedback on another question I posed regarding looking after my hair when swimming, I get the idea that swimming caps are designed to keep your hair out of your face, as opposed to the cap keeping water out of your hair.

The reason why I ask is because I want to go swimming everyday and want to make sure I keep my hair protected, and if the cap is not going to keep water out then I don't want to wear one. I hate wearing them, they are so tight, block everything out, and give me a major headache.

Please tell me what you think of swimming caps.

  1. I use a swim cap mostly for speed, and to keep my hair out of my face. They do help prevent some damage to your hair, especially if you put conditioner in your hair then put the cap on. Swim caps aren't suppose to keep your hair dry though, but they still can help prevent some damage to your hair due to the chlorine.

Also after you swim wash and condition you hair will a good shampoo and conditioner. I use Brocato Peppermint scrub shampoo, with Redken Heavy Cream conditioner- here is what the bottles look like http://www.brocatohair.com/Html/shamp1.h...

  2. Well i had to wear Swimming caps when i tought Swimming lessons at my old work. Im now a hair dresser and my best advice it to DEFF wear the cap even tho you look funny but before putting it on load your hair up with some conditioner. please not cheap kind either, try redkin Extreme it should help block the chlorine water from attacking your hair when your cap leeks water in. Other then that theres really nothing you can do, a swimmers shampoo will help a little but chlorine is damaging either way.

  3. just swim how u like then wash ur hair with good shampoo and conditioner afterwoods

  4. While they are uncomfortable, here are some positive reasons to buy them.

    1. They make SOFT caps that do not hurt your head.

    2. They are proven to make you swim faster and glide through the water smoother.

    3. They do protect your head the best, especially if you are blonde.

I personally do not like them, but I wear them EVERY time I swim, they really do improve my time. I can see better, and go faster.

    Try the website http://www.usaswimming.org/usasweb/Deskt...

    Good luck!

  5. If you're looking to go faster then use a swim cap.  Otherwise you don't need too.  And the only way I know to keep your hair protected is to get some special shampoo and conditioner that's MADE for swimming/chlorine.

Try those b/c thats what's gonna keep your hair protected. A swim cap only tightens around your head to create a smooth surface so you can swim faster in the water.
