Carpeting costs $20 per square yard. You carpet a room that has a width of 15 feet for $800. What is the length of the room in feet?

I dunno how to solve it...

  1. $800 divided by $20 per square yard = 40 square yards

    15 feet = 5*3 feet = 5 yards

    A=lw (area = length * width)

    l = A/w = 40/5 = 8

    The length is 8 yards or 24 feet.

    Rohau&#039;s method/explanation also leads to 24 feet.


  2. Just remember there are 9 sq. feet in a yard.

    800 divided by 20 is 40 yards or divided by 9 is 360 sq feet.  

    360 divided by 15 (width) =
