Another "I Want to be an Actress" Question

Hi Everybody. I'm new to the forum -- got here by googling my question. In a nutshell, I am tired of seeing people that are successful in entertainment and aren't as articulate or attractive as me. (i.e., whoopi g., the little fat black female doctor on "grey's anatomy"), I truly feel if they can be successful at acting, then I certainly can too. I tire of struggling to have just a mediocre life. I want in! I'm a 47-year old mixed race (but look African-American) woman who looks like a 37 or 38 year old, I stay in the gym to keep it going. I'm 5'10' and have a good speaking voice - people have told me that I sound like someone who should do commercials. I am very attractive with large almond shaped expressive eyes, straight white teeth (spent enough $$ on them!) and my nose and lips are not big at all and nicely shaped. I've been told I look like Kim Coles but skinnier and taller. I read aloud very well. I make a decent living working in Midtown as an executive assistant right now, but want to break into acting.

Is it possible to keep my day job and still pursue an acting career? (I know I'll have to spend $$$ to pursue) Does anyone know of a reasonably priced photographer in NYC or Brooklyn for my headshots? And finally, is it possible to audition if you only have headshots and no resume? -- Thanks for taking the time to answer and good luck in your personal pursuit of happiness too :)

  1. I know exactly what you mean, people who aren't talented are making it. First of all, I'm going to give you what I think, then I'll give you the answer to your question.  It's really hard to make it. Most people don't. Yes, you can audition without a resume but you need one to make it in this industry. Start with some classes and local theaters to build up a resume.  I would strongly suggest keeping your day job. It's expensive to make it. Most wanna-be actresses are waitresses and live pay check to pay check. Why not try though? Deffinetly, take classes, build a resume and get headshots. THen look for an agent.

    GOod luck!

  2. You're too old, plus you have no experience. Just because you think you're pretty (which is debatable) doesn't mean you have talent. Get a clue and stop double posting.
