Should we register for holiday things like a Christmas table cloth etc.? Or should we leave the detailed stuff to ourselves?

  1. You should only register for things you and your new husband will NEED to build a home together (i.e. kitchenware, bath towels, etc.)

Christmas table cloths certainly do not qualify as something you will need. Holiday decorations are for you to buy, not your guests.

ADDED: Please do not fall into this new tacky trend of registering for whatever tickles your fancy. Putting a flat screen TV or a new game console on a registry is not only extremely tacky, but is also very poor eitquette. Again, the registry is for things you will NEED. It's not supposed to look like a kid's wish list.

  2. my advise is register whatever you like and whatever you want, as much as you could, on my bridal shower people complained that I didn't register enough stuff, so go crazy and scan everything you would want to buy!!!!

  3. I would say that is fine if you want to, but limit the "frivlolous" things that you don't technically need. I looked at my friend's registry is she has video games on it, a 5,000 TV, and a lot of other things like that.. So just limit the things you don't technically need (especially if they're entertainment related)

ps. I love Christmas too! And it's lucky we registered in the summer when I couldn't even be tempted by Christma decorations...

  4. you'll get stuff like that for Christmas presents forever.  Don't register for it.  Plus, it's hard to find when it's not Christmas time.

  5. Do it!

I've seen registries with board games and a karoke machine!

I think holiday items are keepsakes, so it makes sense to receive them as a wedding gift.

  6. If your registry is open when the holidays come around, register for a few keepsake items if you want. I would, but I am a Xmas freako.

But remember that people will be buying you Xmas stuff from now until...and your first Xmas after the wedding someone might like to buy you that big turkey paltter or you first Xmas tablecloth.

Tee hee, that reminds me of a story, my Mom and her sister were both professional quality seamstresses, and decided one Xmas to buy material for a big tablecloth and napkins. Both had dining room tables the same size. I still remember Mom fringing those red napkins. I thought she was going to lose her mind. The tablecloth was the ugliest pointsettia pattern ever created. But they both dutifully traded the set back and forth for years. Gee,I think I will go try to find it.

When you ask for things on your registry, keep weird things like that in mind. Don't cut off an opportunity to make a cherished family memory by sticking something thoughtlessly on the registry.
