if one joins (navy) and is wanting to pursue 1 of 4 things: master at arms, diver, rescue swimmer, avaiation mech., and joins but finds out he/she cant get a secret clearance because of being late on car payments several time and turned in to collections 4 school payment ( which is now paid) what happens to that person? does he get stuck in a job field he really doesnt like for 4 years?? is it true that it can take years to get a clearance? and do all these jobs i listed require a secret clearance? some say "long as ur making payments" some say " NO u can be bought" well maybe the mil takes it this way but lets get real , just because someone has shown fin irresponsibility doesnt mean they would sell out.. personall i would be more weary of several criminal charges. someone in the military or knows about it give some answers about the likelyhood of getting a secret if needed.. thanks and god bless 4 reading all this lol

  1. MA requires a Clearance.  Aviation Mech MIGHT.  if you choose one of those two ratings and ultimately you are denied the Clearance.. one of two things will happen.  if you lied about anything  they will kick you out with a Fraudulent Enlistment charge.   if you were up front and it was denied  by higher authority(* the Navy does NOT do their own investigating) then you will be allowed to pick a new rating based on what is available that you qualify for.

if you are initially denied a Clearance it IS possible to get one further down the line at your re enlistment as long as you are a good sailor.

  2. You just get reclassed to a rate that doesn't require clearance.

  3. Nearly all positions in the military require at least a Secret clearance.  If you are not in one of the very few billets that doesn't require it, you'll be separated involuntarily if you cannot get or keep a Secret clearance.  A poor credit file CAN be used to deny a clearance.
