Question:

Another sewing machine problem!?

I cant figure out whats wrong. When I press the pedal, it looks like all is well for a few seconds, then everything jams. When I pull the fabric out its all bunched up in the fabric and under into where the bobbin is. I literally have to cut the thread to get it all out. What is this and how can I fix it? AND what might have caused this to happen so I can avoid it next time? Any help would be great!

  1. You might try taking out the bobbin and making sure it is wound properly, then take the top thread out and re thread from the beginning. Test on a scrap of fabric. When the bobbin is out, make sure nothing is caught down there. After that, try a new needle. Hope this helps you. Margie

  2. I have a Bernina and if I don't hold the two threads at the back until i have taken a few stitches , this is what happens. Make sure you have all the thread and fluff cleaned out and re- thread the machine. Are you using the right needle for the type of fabric ? Ball point for knits and regular or universal for woven fabric. Here are a few links to help.

  3. Start from the beginning.....Do you have the correct bobbin for the machine? Is it wound evenly & firmly from top to bottom and is seated in the bobbin case correctly (There should be a diagram on which way the thread pulls off the bobbin before inserting it into the case). You also have two key areas (thread paths)  that you need to pay close attention to when threading the machine.. the first one is the tension discs (two silver disc that open up when the presser foot is raised and closed when you lower the presser foot). When threading the machine make sure your presser foot is raised...next important thing is to make sure the thread is in the take up lever properly...to make sure of this ...lower the presser foot and tug gently on the thread once you  have  guided the thread into the take up lever...Birds Nest are what we call them when you get a tangled mess in the bobbin area of your fabric...and in the bobbin case...Make sure you completely unthread and rethread the machine..Of course like the other posters said...use the correct needle (size and style) according to the fabric used ....Good luck and remember to check your machine manual....
