Jessica wants to construct a new rectangular graden bed by 2.5 metres by 1.5 metres

A] what will the length of the diagonal be? to the nearest tenth of a metre?

  1. One less than three times of the width of a rectangle is the length of the rectangle. The length is 14 cm. what is the width?

    w=3x-1

    L=14

    put in equation

    3x-1=14

    transpose -1 to the other side it becomes +1

    3x=14+1

    3x=15

    divide both sides by 3

    x=15/3

    x=5

    Jessica wants to construct a new rectangular garden bed by 2.5 metres by 1.5 metres

    a. use the pythagorean theorem c2=a2+b2

    c2=a2+b2

    c2=(1.5)square + (2.25)square

    c2= 2.25+6.25

    c2=8.5

    to remove the square on c, square root 8.5 the answer is 2.9154 meters..answer is 2.92

    b. perimeter = a(2)+b(2) or add all the sides of it

    p= 1.5(2)+2.25(2)

      =3+5

      = 8 meters

    p=1.5+1.5+2.25+2.25

      = 8 meters

  2. 5 cm.

  3. why don't you get a study partner, or study group. And if you don't understand something in class always raise your hand and ask questions until you understand the problem.

  4. first one...

    the words suggest the equation:

    L=3w-1

    if L=14, then solve:

    14=3w-1

    15=3w

    w=5

    for the second one, use the pythagorean theorem to determine the diagonal:

    diagonal = sqrt[2.5x2.5+1.5x1.5]

    the length of fencing is the perimeter of the garden, which is 2x2.5+2x1.5 = 8
