Question:

Another simple question for Mac users...?

I am taking a required intro to macintosh computers course for school. I've owned a mac since I can remember so I've whizzed through this class, however I missed this one stupid question (even thought I'm pretty sure the instructor marked it wrong by mistake!)

This is EXACTLY how the question is worded:

If you press and drag and let go of a icon, onto another window or folder that is stored in the same storage device what does this do?

My answer: it moves the file

Am I wrong?

  1. Absolutely Right

  2. Hi there,

Copying a file to a disk drive is the same as copying a file anywhere. Drag the file to the destination and drop it there. This includes in an open window, onto a folder icon, or even a drive icon on your Desktop

Another way to check the icon: Select the icon by clicking on it once then press Command-I. An information window will pop up showing that the icon is either an application or a shortcut. If it is a shortcut, the information window will also ...Look carefully at the icon. Does it have a little hook shaped arrow on the lower part of the icon

  3. It may depend on, from where you drag it, and to where. If you drag it from the dock, to somewhere, poof it disappears, because it was just a shortcut to something in the Applications folder.

If you drag it to the sidebar in Finder you're CREATING a shortcut. Else, I suspect, you're right. I'm a newbie too, so maybe you'll get a better answer here.
