Bump…!

Thirteen weeks and counting

You brought happy tears today

Not the first time, not the last

Since we found you're on the way

We heard yer little heartbeat

Twas fast and very strong

Though you're no bigger than my thumb

You'll be HUGE before too long

The nurse gave me a tissue

Mia got one too

Cause we cried when we heard you, there inside

Shure what else could we do

It's mad to think for all those years

We never knew the joy

That could come from us not knowing

If you're a girl or you're a boy!

So rest easy in yer Mama's tum

You beautiful little child

We'll see you in the New Year

What a roller coaster ride…!

  1. This is one road we never traveled. We got married late and decided to spend the diaper money on yummy snacks and beverages instead.

  2. At this rate they will have to strap you in as well since you will probably faint during delivery!  Anticipation is fun, enjoy the emotional ride and sleep while you can!  Well said.

  3. I can see you guys publishing a whole book of these, written as the baby develops and chronicling all the different, wonderful and occasionally conflicting feelings. Get on it, you've got a best seller here. Good luck!

  4. The greatest of mysteries!  Recalling the feelings of impending parenthood I sit here with a happy tear for you.  There is hope for the world, a new life coming and parents who are already in love with their baby.  Congratulations!

  5. The way you guys are going, you're gonna be dehydrated by then. Lovely poem, not at all sappy.

  6. Not sappy pappy! It's a celebration of just one part of the journey for all of you.

PS I found today a poem I wrote years ago for a friend who had a little boy - if you end up having a boy get back to me.

For some reason I am struggling to convert it to relate to a girl baby. But I will work on it.
