Another title is "unrealistic" for Schumacher - Alain Prost
Alain Prost has little hope to see the seven times world Champion, Michael Schumacher back in his original form again. He thinks that ‘age’ is the biggest factor that kept him from performing well during the 2010 season, and he cannot defy this factor.
The German came back to the sport at the start of the 2010 season after a period of three years. His return to the sport with Mercedes GP, the winner of both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship in 2009, was embraced whole heartedly by the racing enthusiasts. The fanfare and hype for the racer swelled up immensely at the beginning of the year; however he was not able to live up to the expectations associated with him.
The team failed to provide Schumacher with a competitive car, while (statistically) the best driver ever on earth failed to get the most out of what he was handed with. Finally, after struggling behind the top drivers of the season and also behind his teammate Nico Rosberg, he ended up the season at 9thplace in the championship standings.
Although, he kept blaming the team car for his abortive season, Rosberg, a much junior driver in terms of age and experience, was able to score almost double to him and wrapped his 2010 campaign at 7th place in the charts.
As the season ended many believed that the German will not be seen on the track again. On the contrary, he chooses to stay on Formula One grids for another three years. The driver has proclaimed that he will bag another championship in three years time and then leave the sport once and for all.
However, Prost believes that aiming for another title now is "unrealistic" for the 42-year-old. The Frenchman stated, "His decision to come back was personal and I respect it. I think it's impossible, at his age, to return to where he was in the past, but I hope he proves me wrong."
The 55-year-old, while answering to reporters’ questions earlier today, said that he opts to stay out of the sport not because returning to the track is not possible, but would "like to do some laps in a modern car."
"But only to assess the developments in technology, which has always fascinated me," the four-time world champion concluded saying.
