Another twist in the tale for Terrell Owens – NFL news
The already complicated and somewhat unfortunate tale of former National Football League (NFL) wide receiver, Terrell Owens, has received another twist as the player has now been released by an Indoor Football League (NFL) team, the Allen Wranglers.
The release has come after the player allegedly violated his contract. However, Owens believes that he did not violate the contract and said that a legal team was looking at his case in this matter.
According to the owner of the team, Jon Frankel, Owens denied participating in two road games of the team besides failing to appear at a local children’s hospital, where his presence was already scheduled.
Frankel was apparently not happy over the player’s reluctance of playing those road games as they are of great importance for the team and its playoff chances.
According to ESPNDallas.com, Frankel said in a statement:
“Our fans are amongst the best in the league, and it is impossible to maintain a player when even our fans notice and comment on a player's lack of effort both on and off the field. We need to do what is best for this team, our fans and this community."
Meanwhile, Owens has said that his contract did not bind him to play those games and that a legal team is looking into the owner’s statement. However, he did not discuss any intention of rejoining the team.
Owens, 38, had reluctantly joined the IFL after not being able to attract interest from any NFL team.
He started his professional NFL career in 1996 and played for San Francisco 49ers (eight seasons), Philadelphia Eagles (two seasons), Dallas Cowboys (three seasons), Buffalo Bills (one season) and Cincinnati Bengals (one season).
Even after joining the IFL, he reiterated time and again that he wanted to rejoin the NFL, which still seems unlikely.
Along with the age factor, Owens controversial past record might also block his chances of returning to the NFL.
He has been involved in a lot of controversies with the managements and players of the franchises he has played for.
He lived up to his reputation after leaving the league as well and also brought Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, and quarterback, Tony Romo, under the line of fire on different occasions.
Owens is once again hoping to rejoin the NFL now.
