  1. You can go to Settings, then Main Menu, Scroll down to where it says Sleep, then change it to on, next return to main screen and press Sleep and that will shut it off. If that doesn't work you can try resetting it by Switching the hold switch over for 5 secs then back to on, and then press the center button and Menu button at the same time till the Apple logo appears. After Resetting try shutting it off as normal if it doesn't work you can then trying connecting to iTunes and selecting the restore, be warned you'll have to re-sync all your music, videos, pictures, etc. Also I'm not but will your iPod do anything at all, like play music? If it's not then let the battery die and then recharge it that will fix it if it's "Frozen". If all else fails call AppleCare at 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).

  2. hold menu and play and it should shut down!!

  3. let the battery die.

i used to have that problem and what i did was pressed the play/pause button with an object.

the reason why this happens is because some time it does not know if you are going to use the click wheel to browse or if you are going to click that button. so try using any thing else other than your fingers
