A resort hotel has 200 rooms. Those with kitchen facilities rent for $100 per night and those without kitchen facilities rent for $80 per night. On a night when the hotel was completely full, revenues were $7000. How many of each type of room does the hotel have? Set up the system of equations, but do not solve.

I'm lost. Please help!

  1. let x be the number ov rooms with kitchen faclility

let y be the number of rooms with out kitchen facility

the sum of x and y should equal to 200

    x + y = 200 eq 1

the sum of money should equal to 7000

    100x + 80y = 7000 eq 2

but this question is in correct....even if all the rooms dint have kitchen facility..the magnitude of revenues generated would be far more than $7000....as  200 * 80 would make $16000

  2. OK, good question

Let X be the occupied number of rooms with kitchen facilities.

Let Y be the occupied number of rooms NOT with kitchen facilities.

Now, here are the required equations.

    Equation 1

    X + Y = 200

    Equation 2

    100 * X + 80 * Y = 7000

On solving we get a X as a negative number, not possible !! .

On complete filling the rooms, minimum revunue should be $ 16000, (200 * 80). But its only $ 7000, where are the rest of the money gone?(Please correct)

  3. What?

Start here:  $7000 divided by a full hotel of 200 rooms = average of $35.00 per room.  You have already stated that your rooms start at $80.00

So; either your front desk and night auditor are s******g you, or your question is flawed.

The reason you are lost is because there is no answer...don't try to find the answer to every problem in an equation, just think.

Later post:  Now we're starting to get some thinkers!!

  4. okay. the hotel is full so all two hundred rooms are being used. so the first equation is:

    X ( 100 dollar rooms) + Y(80 dollar rooms) = 200

now, the 100 dollar rooms and the 80 dollar rooms add to a total of 7000 dollars. so the second equation is then:

    100X + 80Y = 7000

    your system is thus:

    X+Y = 200

    100x + 80Y = 7000
