Anselmo Moreno nails David De La Mora to defend his WBA super world bantamweight title - Boxing News
Anselmo Moreno, the WBA super world bantamweight champion, successfully defended his prestigious title for the third consecutive time against Mexican David De La Mora, the former WBC FECARBOX bantamweight champion, by collecting a clean ninth-round technical
knockout win in a 12-round bout held on April 21, 2012.
The ring for the epic showdown was stretched at Don Haskins Convention Center situated in El Paso, Texas, United States and the whole Saturday night extravaganza fulfilled the expectations of each and every Texan boxing fan present in the arena.
The event was organised and promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and the bout co-headlined the weekly Showtime’s show. The jam-packed pay-per-view was headlined by the WBC super bantamweight championship bout between Abner Mares and Eric
Morel.
From the very beginning of the bout, the odds were in favour for Moreno who was entering in his career’s 35th bout. The Panamanian proud boasted 32 wins, 11 of them by knockout.
By the looks of the knockout ability it was hypothecated that Moreno might face slight problem since David possesses a better knockout proficiency in fact boasted 17 of his total 24 wins by knockout but the southpaw Moreno did not give the 23-year-old Mexican
proud the necessary leverage to connect powerful jabs.
As a result of the impressive game plan and the footwork, Anselmo kept an upper hand over David throughout the bout. Moreno, 26, also known as the ‘Chemito’, started the things off and continuously rattled David’s world by his well-targeted fists.
During the first round, Moreno battered and targeted David’s body instead of his face. The strategy worked out and in the second round due to the extensive beating David lost his balance and fell on the ring floor.
The same thing happened in the sixth round and at the end of the eighth round, David, also known as ‘Morita’, lost all his resilience and agility. As a result, after the passage of just 10 seconds of the ninth round, with Moreno’s raw powered left hand punch,
La Mora fell on the ring floor.
The referee completed his 10-count and eventually awarded the bout to the champion Moreno. After the successful title defence, Anselmo shared his thoughts about the bout and his performance and commented, “I knew that I would win the fight by working him
to the body. But, I took my time because David is a good fighter. I was able to win the fight through all of the work that I did in the gym.”
With this win Moreno has collected his career’s 33rd win and 12th via KO. David, on the other hand, unfortunately, received his second career defeat and first ever by knockout.
