  1. Well most tutors charge you more if you are in a higher grade. It can be anything from a 50-100 dollars. You can use the internet or some workbooks to help you. I would say that homeschooling is ok for elementary cause most parents can manage to teach you the same way. For highschool i think you really should go to shcool in order to graduate.

  2. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with your parents teaching you in their native language, assuming you also speak it. A tutor for everything would be cost prohibitive.  You can make sure your curriculum choices make self education easy and you can always get on here, or any other homeschooling message board to ask for help if your parents can't help you. Taking a guess, I'll assume they speak Spanish. I know there is a Spanish speaking section on The Well Trained Mind message board, so there must be others too. They may provide good support for your parents. You can certainly make it work if you want to bad enough. Work out what subjects you want to learn, read reviews and ask advice. Message boards are great for that, you can explain exactly what you are looking for, and people will be able to recommend.

  3. I was homeschooled  and let me tell you... you really miss alot of things by being locked away at home away from friends and life.

I'd rethink it, unless you have some major reason why you can't be in school. It's really not worth it.

    Tutors are generally pretty pricey.

Unless you have parents that are able to do the work to really help you excell in your subjects, you could be like me and have a very hard time with college admissions.

My parents let me decide if I wanted to be homeschooled, saying yes was the biggest mistake of my life.

Think it through very carefully, it will effect the rest of your life.

    Take care....

In response to kashmir2000is I know the facts.

    And I'm not parroting anything.

I'm 34 yrs old and know very well the downside to homeschooling.

If you have parents that are not 110% commited to pushing you to succeed, you could fall behind quickly in your high school years.

It would be different if it was elementary school, but we are talking about high school and she has already said her parents don't speak english well.

She needs to hear the downside of homeschooling, that its not all fun and roses. You miss your friends, dances, football games, extra activities, daily life of an average teen.

High school gets you ready for college... not just academically, but socially as well.

It is an important step in life that one should not miss.

  4. I don't think homeschooling provides an adequate education.

Unless you are having great difficulty with your public school, I would not recommend homeschooling. What problems are you having at school? Have you talked to a school counselor about the home school idea? Have you talked to a school counselor about your problems. You really should.

There are hundreds of sites throughout the Internet that will help you.  From worksheets you can print out, virtual classrooms, online videos and so on.  In addition, you have the TV for support material.  Keep track of the History Channel, Nova and many others.  Record the programs that fit your curriculum.  Be sure to check out COSMEO.  You also have use of your library for books and video rentals.  Museums, IMAX movies, historic sites.  The list goes on and on for resources.  You have free tutors all around you!  :)

Most people who put down homeschooling are parroting what they have heard.  Do the research and know the facts.

    Good luck to you!

  6. This is where using an online high school program (as opposed to developing your own) probably works best. While there are some that are quite expensive, there are others, like Penn Foster High School, that are more reasonably priced. The advantage is having someone who can provide support for you in English, but who won't be staring over your shoulder.

I would encourage you to do plenty of research before you make a decision here.
