When you go into cafes, they put this yellowey stuff in the chips. What is it.

It has a tangy taste.

  13. It sounds like Saffron (BRIGHT yellow), but it's more likely turmeric. A lot of chefs cheat by using turmeric and suggesting it's saffron, because saffron is the most expensive seasoning in the world, and they look much the same and taste somewhat similar. Worst case scenario: it's seasoning salt, which contains MSG, or it's MSG. MSG brightens food and has a yellow tinge to it.
