  1. I love art. I love to look at pictures and I compare the impressionists, which I like a lot also to painters of the 17th century who painted pictures in such detail that it took them years to complete it. A scene with many people and animals in it and still you can see every little finger in detail.. now that is what I call real art.  although of course the impressionists are great also but to get the effect of their painting you have to stand back from the picture then you see how cleverly it's done. I appreciate their creativity.. and the fact that I understand or I guess I understand the paintings also means that I am somewhat creative. creative enough to understand good art. It enriches our life.. great art does.

  2. Art can open your inmagination.

  3. Art touches the mind and heart in ways we probably can't understand.  I can easily be moved to tears or rage by music or cinema, and while sculpture and fine art do not move me as deeply as they do others, I can often be enchanted by such work as the Pieta or the works of Van Gogh and Titian.

In my younger days, I watched Joan Baez sing on a Smothers Brothers television show.  Moved to anger angainst the senseless loss of lives on both sides in the Vietnam War, I wrote an antiwar poem and posted it on the bulletin board of the base post office where I was serving in the Air Force.  Three days later I was interogated by the OSI (or whatever it was called) about my motivations and feelings.  Consequently, I was discharged from the service 23 days after posting the poem.  I guess that was art in action.

I'm a composer of songs and some poetry, I doodle and do some line drawing, and I sing and play guitar.  I've also written a couple of unpublished short stories, and numerous articles and editorials.  Music has always been the shortest path to my heart.  I cry when I hear the Russian Army Chorus sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic, or Chad Mitchell Trio's version of the Bonny Streets of Fife-eo, or Paul Simon singing and playing American Tune.  And my wife wrote a song about the children who suffer due to economic impoverishment that I can't sing without choking up with tears.

The art of political speech and oration borders on spell-casting in some of the greatest oratory.  Although I hate Hitler because of the horrors associated with him, and I do not speak German, I understand he was a masterful orator.  I certainly know that Abraham Lincoln's written and spoken political works are some of the most eloquent and enthralling use of words I have ever known.  We all know, I hope, how well Martin Luther King could speak and inspire.

All manners of artistic expression can be awesomely effective in moving us to actions or emotion or self-examination.  I hope you will get many more responses to this brief but very good question.

  4. I think art does not effect one's life. It depends from person to person how creative you are. One has an inborn skill or else some one gets trained for it. You might be creative in some arena, for example so many people around you might have complimented you in some way or other. So you are being superior than the other in that particular arena.

So think in that dimension, where you are the best.

    Good luck!
