Three men go into a hotel and ask for a room. The receptionist says the room will be 30 euros so the three men pay 10 euros each. When the three men leave the receptionist realises that the room was actually only 25 euro so sends the bell boy up to the room with 5 euros. The bellboy cant figure out how to split the 5 euros so decides to give the men 1 euro each and keep two euros himself.

This means the 3 men each paid 9 euros each.

3 by 9 is 27

Plus the 2 euro the bellboy keeps is 29.

What happened the other euro?

  1. Beginning economist/bookkeepers can't keep debits and credits straight.

    30 euros = Hotel 25, "refund" 3 (one to each),                              bellboy 2

  2. Its still there its all in the way you say it

  3. The bellboy probably dropped it on his way up or something.

  4. you cant add. that is the answer to this riddle

  5. I've heard this joke before. It's a mathematical anomaly.

Your description, although, correct and logical, will never work out as true or fact.

You must do the math another way, as it is written and not explained.

You must do the explaining with addition and not multiplication.

    ROOM: 25 euro.                           PLUS

MAN 1:  1 euro (returned to him)    PLUS

MAN 2:  1 euro (returned to him)    PLUS

MAN 3:  1 euro (returned to him)    PLUS

B'BOY:  2 euro (he kept)               EQUALS

    TOTAL: 30 euro

  6. Because the men paid 10 dollars each not 9.  They were not paid back in full.  Meaning the three dollars back brought them from 10 - 9 but in reality they paid 10 each and five was returned minus the 2 for the tip.  It's pretty simple really.

  7. It's just the way you said it.

    25+3+2 is 30.

  8. the reseptionist kept it

  9. You said the bellboy was given 5 euros to give the 3 men. He gave each one of them one. That's 28. He kept the other 2. That's 30. Not difficult.

  10. ok, so if the bellboy gives 3$ away to three people, and keeps two for himself, there's none missing. If they're is, it's taxes.

  11. It got shoved up the receptionists @$$.

  12. Beats me, I'm American. Our money never disappears like that...........

    Unless the government takes it.

  13. It was sad and lonely, because no one wanted it, so it rolled into a dark corner and stayed their sobbing for the rest of it's life....

  14. they gave it away as tip

  15. The easiest way to understand it is this:

    The men paid 30

They then get back 3 - so now they have paid 27

Of this 27, 25 is with the Hotel and 2 is with the Bellboy

i.e. of the 30, the men have 3 and the hotel and bellboy have 27 between them.

  16. EDIT

  17. it gets eaten by a quarter.

  18. Because 3 cannot be divided into 25 which was the original charge which leaves over 5 giving the boy 2 after fgiving the guys 3. But 3 can go into 27 which is how much was paid by the 3 men leaving over 3 after the the boy gave them their portion in which the boy kept 2 leaving one in which it was expained differently in the seconf part...

I think I worded it how I wanted to...
