Ant Spray on Carpet!?

Question

I know i'm dumb...but i had a ant attack...and I stupidly applied ant spray on my carpet....I have 2 cats and a dog that like to roam my house...its in a corner...but knowing my cats they will go and inspect the new smell.

I have put down Talcum Powder just to repel the ants...but the smell won't go away...and I have sprayed a soapy water mixture everywhere in my room. I have closed the door and put a towel on the ground. I can't open my window because my screen is being fixed...d**n cats. At the moment I am sleeping in the living room.

What else can I do?

When do I know it is safe for my pets to go back in my room?

When is it safe for me to be able to sleep in my room?

How do I get the smell out without opening windows?

Sorry for all of the questions but this has never happened to me before.

You need to blot up the water with towels. It should be safe after it is dry. Doesn't the container tell you that. If you don't get the carpet dry it will sour and  mold.

I don't under stand why you would put soapy water every where when you had a little ant spray in the corner. Should have left it alone. It only takes a tiny amount of ant/bug spray next time. You could put baking soda or dry carpet cleaner like "capture" on the ant spray after it is dry to absorb any oils on the carpet. After it sets at least 30 mins or longer vacuume the powder.

If the door is shut with the cats not in there you can open the windows in the room and run a fan. Or just open them an inch. It will still be some ventilation.

Kim G is wrong and didn't even read the question. Ants can not swallow cinnamon, and thus can not have a problem digesting it. She has no idea what she's talking about.

I guess to help us answer, we would need to know what you sprayed and how much you sprayed.

As a general idea, go to the grocery store and rent a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner. Wash your carpet a few times. Then, please clean out the dirty water tank by hand so the next person doesn't get more than they bargained for.

I wouldn't allow my pets into the room until the smell is gone.

spray 1/4 tsp of each essential oil

eucalyptus

worm wood

spearment

cedar

mix in quart bottle with water and 3 tbs rubbing alchohal

Use a mix of cinnamon and sugar and sprinkle it here and there. The ants will come and pick up the sugar, along with the cinnamon, and take it back to their queen. Ants can’t digest cinnamon and once the queen dies from not being able to digest the cinnamon the colony will die without her.
