Question:

Ant democracy or royal lineage?!?

I am clueless as to how ants go about establishing their officials such as queen and all that. If you were to take a clump of dirt and ants then throw them into an ant farm, would they elect a queen to run their newfound colony or die from lack of leadership. I need to know if I can just chunk some ants into the farm or I have to special order some pre-bred queen ant for them to co-operate. Any info is greatly appreciated.

  1. There are two principles that any definition of democracy is required to have:

all members of the society are having equal access to power,

all members have the freedom to live their lives as they want to.

    NOT  applicable to ants.

No royal lineage, no prince, no princess, a "home ( ant )-made" queen only.

An ant-hill is not a monarchy, not a republic, not a democracy, not a socialistic commune,

All answers about ant colonies and how they are "governed":
