Ante Pavic annihilates Peter Torebko in first round bout – Slovak Open 2011
Ante Pavic, Croatian world No.474, destroyed higher ranked Peter Torebko, German world No.234, as the two clashed in the opening round of Slovak Open 2011 on Tuesday, 15th of November 2011. It took the lower ranked Croatian just a minute over an hour to finish off winning the fixture in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and move on to the second stage of the event.
Commencing with the fixture, Pavic stepped up to serve game one of the match rolling down the scoreboard, 1-0. Following the 22-year-old, Torebko served out his first game of the opening set levelling up the scores at 1-1. Pavic continued with his second serve of the set winning the game, game three, and led the table, 2-1.
Pavic, Croatian had a better command over the blue court as his previous 10 fixtures were all on hard court. The 22-year-old also had a remarkable percentage of his first serve wins, 83 percent. Adding to that the Croatian had a rock solid defence, not giving a single chance of a breakpoint to his German rival.
However, returning in game four, Pavic mesmerized his 23-year-old counterpart breaking him with a super cross-court winner and extended his lead from 2-1 to 3-1. Croatian, however, did not stop. Captivating his fourth service game win, Pavic curved away into the lead winning game five, 4-1.
Torebko did put some games to his winnings, however, was unable to break back to counter the 22-year-old’s lead. Winning two out the last four games, Pavic bagged the set winning 6-3, and moved on to play the set two.
Struggling in the match opener, Torebko continued with the second set opener, however, was unable to put forward a strong offence. Pavic broke the 23-year-old rival early in the game to lead the set, 1-0. Winning game two on his serve, the 22-year-old added a winner extend his lead to two straight wins.
Torebko pulled back a game winning his second serve to cut the lead to 2-1, however, was still unable to win any breakpoints. Pavic, on the other hand, maintained his lead and kept on winning service games. With scores at 4-2, the 22-year-old Croatian broke his German rival hoping to end the fixture sooner, however, Torebko broke back right away, game eight, 5-3, only to lose the final game on his serve and lose the match, 6-3.
Pavic, with a startling straight set victory in the opening round of the ATP Challenger Tour event, now moves on to the second stage of the event, however, his rival is still to be decided from the match between Igor Andreev, Russian, and Michael Berrer of Germany.
