Anthony Bass’ pitching helps San Diego Padres overpower Colorado Rockies 3-1 – MLB Update
San Diego Padres’ starter, Anthony Bass had an outstanding day with the ball as he pitched five overriding innings with an ERA of 1.80 in the Padres’ 3-1 victory against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on June 13.
The Padres got off the mark in the very first inning and took an initial 1-0 lead when Ryan Ludwick hit a sacrifice fly to right-field, Chris Denorfia scored one run and Jason Bartlett moved to third base at the end of their first inning.
Second and third inning passed without any run as the batters played awkward shots towards field positions and got out. At the top of the fourth, Ludwick was out to right-field and Anthony Rizzo grounded out to third base. On the other side, the Rockies’
out-fielder Charlie Blackmon singled to centre-field and Ty Wigginton posted a single run to tie the game 1-1 at the bottom of the fourth inning.
During the fifth inning, no run was added from both teams and the score-board was unmoved. Sixth inning went in favour of the Padres as they went ahead 2-1 by contributing one run. Ludwick was grounded out to short-stop while Bartlett scored one run and
Chase Headley occupied third base in no time.
Ludwick commented on Bass’ performance and said, “I'm very happy for the kid. He had some life to his fastball.”
In the seventh and eighth inning, the batters failed to add any run for their sides as the pitchers threw the ball in perfect line. Bass allowed just one run on five hits including one earned run and struck-out only one batter. He gave four walks on his
81 pitches.
During the press conference, Bass said, “I hardly got any sleep the past couple of days. It's a good thing to go hear positive feedback. Things I can work on, too. That's what's going to get me back here.”
Todd Helton was unable to score a run for the Rockies but praised Bass in his statement as, “He had a good arm, but we should have done a lot better. If we would have swung the bats better we would have won the game.”
In the ninth inning, the Padres’ centre-fielder Cameron Maybin posted one run when Alberto Gonzalez hit a single-run shot towards an infield area and ended the game 3-1.
