Anthony Bass shines as San Diego Padres defeat Colorado Rockies 4-0 - MLB Update

San Diego Padres’ starting pitcher, Anthony Bass had a notable day with the ball as he pitched five innings and struck-out one batter with an ERA of 1.66 in the Padres’ 4-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on September 21.
Padres started particularly well as they posted four runs during the first inning to get a 4-0 lead. Cameron Maybin added the first run for the Padres when Chase Headley hit a sacrifice fly to left-field. Jeremy Hermida scored the second run when Alberto
Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly towards left-field.
Chris Denorfia also posted one run for San Diego when Anthony Rizzo hit a single-run drive towards right-centre and Luis Martinez moved to third base. The last run for the Padres was taken by Martinez when Andy Parrino drove a single-run shot to centre-field
and Rizzo occupied third base to end the first inning.
The rest of the eight innings passed without any run as the pitchers dominated with their strong throws. Rockies' batters were unable to take runs at the bottom of second inning as Troy Tulowitzki and Jordan Pacheco both flied out to right-field while Seth
Smith flied out to centre-field. At the bottom of fourth inning, Dexter Fowler hit a ground rule double to deep centre-field while Mark Ellis and Tulowitzki both flied out without any run.
In the sixth inning, Thomas Field moved to short-stop but Gonzalez and Rizzo both popped out while Parrino ground out without taking even a single run. Chris Nelson tried to give his team the initial runs as he singled off centre-field during the seventh
inning but Smith lined out without any run. Later, Nelson also got out to second base when Pacheco hit a grounder into double play, third to second base and second to first base.
Bass permitted just one walk and two hits on his 52 pitches. He said, “I started most of my career. I feel real comfortable starting. But it doesn't mean I would not like going to the bullpen either and helping out the team in the pen as well.”
Martinez walked at the top of eighth inning but Aaron Cunningham struck-out, Gonzalez ground out and Denorfia flied out on easy pitches. Consequently, Padres swept the Rockies 3-0 in the three-game series after beating the Rockies convincingly.
