Anthony Charteau is targeting the Tour de France 2012 as one of his major goals for the coming season
After a terrific 2010 season, French cyclist Anthony Charteau had to face the disappointment as he was involved in a collision towards the start of the 2011 season.
The cyclist ended up in a horrific crash during the opening stage of the Tour of South Africa 2011, which shattered his dreams for the season.
While commenting on the issue, he briefed, “I crashed badly in South Africa where I had all the ligaments of my right shoulder, as well as the shoulder blade completely torn off and it took some time to get over that”.
The 32-year-old claimed the polka dot jersey during the Tour de France 2010, and he is hoping to regain the same form for the 2012 season.
Riding the French Grand Tour is the biggest goal for the cyclist and he will again target the best climber’s jersey at the 2012 version of the race.
Anthony has also shown interest in riding the Vuelta a Espana 2012 but his Vuelta participation will totally depend on the energy he is left with after the Tour.
Charteau is currently training in Malaysia and is hoping to stay lucky for the rest of the season. He will be seen in action at the ten-day race, Le Tour de Langkawi 2012.
The Frenchman won the 2007 edition of the race and he is looking ahead to make it his second overall win of the season.
He told Ouest-France “It wasn't easy to come back. I was very tired at some points as I worked out hard to get back into form. Two months without competition is very long. But I didn't manage my return from injury very well”.
Most of his 2011 season was ruined because of the injury but he still managed to bag the 1st overall victory at the La Tropicale Amissa Bongo, along with a stage 2 win at the Route de Sud 2011.
Charteau started his 2012 campaign at the Etoile de Besseges but the cold European temperature made it really hard for the cyclist to continue training in the region.
The cyclist therefore, has moved to the South Asian continent a week earlier to enjoy the warm racing conditions just ahead of the 17th edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi 2012.
