Anthony Charteau is warming up at the hot racing climate in Malaysia before the Tour of Langkawi 2012
Anthony Charteau is currently enjoying the warm weather in Malaysia where he will be riding the Le Tour de Langkawi scheduled from February 24th to March 4th, 2012.
The 32-year-old succeeded during the 2007 edition of the race and is keen to make it his second overall win at the ten-day race in South East Asia this year.
The cyclist arrived in Malaysia a week earlier to get used to the weather and the racing conditions of the region.
He told Ouest-France, "This is a race that suits me well with its hot temperatures and high-percentage climbs, Every time I was here, I've been in a position to win, so I'm eager to do well again this time".
Anthony had a disappointing 2011 season which was mostly dominated by the injuries. He is looking ahead at a promising year and is counting on his luck to achieve the goals he has for the new season.
Charteau crashed in South Africa and dislocated his right shoulder and it took him over two months to get back in shape.
Despite spending most of the season away from his bike, Anthony managed to claim the overall win at the La Tropicale Amissa Bongo including the stage 2 win at the at the Route du Sud 2011.
Charteau started his New Year’s training with his Team Europcar in Spain and has already started his New Year campaign at the GP Marseillaise and the Etoile de Besseges.
However, the cold European weather made it really hard for the Frenchman to continue his training.
Anthony has therefore decided to migrate to the Asian continent for the time being and he will be seen in action at the UCI 2.HC race, Le Tour de Langkawi.
He briefed, "I don't like riding in this sort of conditions. But during the ascents, I had some very good sensations. The more we climbed the better I felt. So I'm looking forward to better weather".
Charteau grabbed the best climber, polka jersey during the Tour de France 2010 and his biggest goal for the 2012 season is to regain the same form at the coming edition of the French Grand Tour.
Anthony is also looking ahead to ride the Vuelta a Espana 2012, provided that he has enough juice left in his legs after the Tour de France.
