Anthony Davidson believes Kimi Raikkonen will find it hard to adapt in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Anthony Davidson is expecting Kimi Raikkonen to struggle in the 2012 season.
Raikkonen left Formula in 2007 under abnormal circumstances as the driver was considered to be in the peak of his career. Raikkonen never gave a clear reason behind his retirement but former drivers and critics have suggested that he did not have any motivation
left to compete.
Lotus were able to lure him the Finn back for the 2012 season, and since his return many questions have been raised over the lack of his motivation. Although Raikkonen has aggressively defended against that notion and has said that he has never had any motivational
issues. He said that he is fully behind his team and desires to be successful in the upcoming season.
Davidson has raised another point and that is how well can Raikkonen adjust to the sport. The Brit says that a comeback is never easy and Michael Schumacher one of the greatest drivers of all time has found it hard to make a comfortable comeback and there
is no reason to suggest that it will not be the case with Raikkonen.
Davidson also thinks with Romain Grosjean the young driver making his debut into Formula 1 is not expected to do much in the season, but if he shows good pace on the track it will put extra pressure on the Finn.
“It is just so different the sensation of a rally car to an F1 car. In F1 we are talking about the finer details all the time, it is the tenth of a second you are looking for. He will find it hard to get back into it. I am sure he will be fast and he is
at a disadvantage because the car is not going to be there, in the same way that Michael's car wasn't [in 2010],” he said.
So far during the two pre-season tests Raikkonen has shown good pace and set the top time at Jerez. Lotus were admired for their cars reliability but a glitch in the chassis of the car has caused the team to drop the remainder of the test. They aim to participate
in the third and final pre-season test at Barcelona.
The season begins with the Australian Grand Prix on March 18, 2012.
