Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: Top 5 Prospects in NBA Draft – Part 1
With the playoffs in full flow and the next NBA season approaching fast which will see a new group of exciting youngster trying to have their say in the big league. A lot of great talents from all across the globe have opted to
be drafted this year and the amount of talent is getting better and better.
Let`s take a look at the top 5 Draft prospects who will be coming to the NBA next season.
1.       Anthony Davis
The freshman who took college basketball by storm is Anthony Davis of the Kentucky Wildcats. The power forward is all set to be selected as the number 1 draft pick in this year`s draft. He won all the top individual honours college
basketball has to offer before helping his team the Wildcats win the NCAA Championship for the 8th time in school`s history.
Along with winning the championship, Davis also bagged the Most Outstanding Player award for his consistent play throughout the season. Anthony also won the award for being the best freshmen of the year and the 2012 National Player
of the Year and the best defensive player award in his first year in college.
Out of the 40 games in his college career, Davis averaged 14.2 points to go along with 10.4 rebounds per game. He also led the NCAA by averaging a high number of 4.7 blocks per game. Many an analyst who have seen him play can compare
his style to Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics as he has shown signs of not only being a good post player but also having the ability to shoot the mid range jumper. Davis was very consistent with his field goal percentage by managing to knock down 62% of
his attempts.
Davis along with the other 4 starters of the Kentucky team opted to take their talents to the NBA together by making the official announcement in a fully televised press conference back in April.
2.       Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Another Kentucky prospect that will be headlining the NBA draft this year is the 18 year old Michael Kidd-Gilchrist who had been one of the most key figures in the Wildcats run to the NCAA Championship. He along with the Davis,
Marquis Teague, Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb were part of the Kentucky team that lifted the Championship by defeating the Kansas Jayhawks.
In his first year at college, Kidd was the heart and soul of his team as he brought limitless amounts of energy and a never surrendering mentality to the game. He never gave up on plays and seemed to never tire in game which earned
him much praise from coaches all across the NCAA including his own coach, John Calipari.
In the 40 games he played for Kentucky, He was averaging 11.9 points to go along with 7.4 rebounds per game. Throughout the season he got most of his points on hustle plays, running after loose ball and getting rebounds over many
players who were bigger than him.
Along with making spectacular plays for himself, Gilchrist showed signs of unselfishness which showed signs of maturity beyond his age and was there for his team mates on every occasion of the season. During the run to the Championship,
there came a time when Kidd felt that his team mate and senior Darius Miller is in a slump and a starting position would get his confidence up. He spoke to coach Calipari about the issue and asked him to let Miller start.
"He told me that Darius was playing bad and he needs to get going and needs to get going in the NCAA tournament,'' Calipari said. "I told the team that Michael wanted Darius to start because he needs to play better. Come on. That's
one of the youngest freshmen in the country doing that.'' – Calipari said back in March.
So when Kidd-Gilchrist comes to the NBA, expect him to be as unselfish as that which will earn him a good position with whichever team decides to pick him in the Draft.
