Anthony Davis ankle sprain not serious; Will report at Team USA training Camp – NBA Update
After recent reports of an ankle injury to Anthony Davis - suffered during New Orleans Hornets team practice - there had been speculation that the young prospect will not be able to make it to team USA training Camp in Las Vegas.
However after a day`s rest and some time to assess the situation, it is believed that Davis did not hurt his ankle as badly as was predicted earlier and will be available to participate in the Olympics camp later this week.
“It is unclear how soon Davis will be able to get on the court, but Team USA will be patient to give him time to heal sprained ankle. The injury isn’t as bad as originally thought. (Davis) really wants to play.”
According to the same source, Davis will be reporting to camp on Wednesday and despite the sprained ankle, will be trying his best to make it to the final squad selected for the Olympics.
There are only limited slots available on the team, with the first nine places already being reserved for NBA super stars, and Davis will be competing with Blake Griffin, James Harden, Eric Gordon, Rudy g*y and Andre Iguodala for
the final three positions available.
The players who are already confirmed a ticket to London are Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Deron Williams, and Chris Paul. The mentioned stars were also part of the team which won gold in Beijing 2008 Olympics and
will be joined by first timers, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook and Tyson Chandler, who is the reigning defensive player of the year.
There is a minor chance for Davis to make it to the final selected team as USA are in dire need of a good player in the post. Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh and LaMarcus Aldridge have all been ruled out because of injuries but there
is a more probable chance that the team management will give the nod to the more experienced Griffin.
As the current roster stands, team USA still are going to be considered as one of the favourites entering into the Olympics. Nevertheless, teams like Spain, France and Argentina cannot be counted out.
