Anthony Davis doesn’t think he is the guaranteed 1st pick in the NBA Draft – NBA Update
Anthony Davis is all set to become a New Orleans Hornets player after the Hornets won the NBA Draft lottery, in everyone’s eyes but his own. The Consensus No. 1 pick of the 2012 NBA Draft is perhaps the only person in basketball who thinks he won’t be picked
up by the Hornets.
"It's not set in stone," the former Kentucky star said.
Davis’ presumption notwithstanding, he is going to be the top pick when the time comes. How can he not be after what he accomplished in a freshman year at Kentucky before declaring for the NBA.
The power forward was the rock at the centre of Kentucky’s team around which all their success was built. He was always there to get the rebounds, to make a pass, to fire up his team and showed late on that he can score as well.
If that wasn’t enough Davis stood out in the Final Four and helped his side clinch the NCAA Championship with a monster performance.
Anthony had actually been bracing himself to play for the Charlotte Bobcats after they finished the lowest in NBA rankings 2011 – 2012. The Bobcats however could not land the first pick, so now Davis has to get familiar with the idea of playing in a Hornets
jersey.
He can deny it all he wants, but the writing is already on the wall. Just after New Orleans won the Draft lottery, Davis received a message from their head coach.
"He said, 'Congratulations. I hope you have fun there. You won one national championship there. Go try to win a world championship,'" Davis said.
Still, the forward does not want to sound too confident, or too cocky. He isn’t presuming anything until it happens. That isn’t to mean that Anthony is not confident in his own abilities; he knows he can reach the sky.
"If I keep working hard, playing hard and doing what I have to do to make my team win -- do what the coaches want me to do, do what the veterans want me to do -- I think the sky's the limit," he said.
