Anthony Davis has big dreams for his first season in the NBA – NBA News
Anthony Davis, the number 1 draft pick of the 2012 NBA draft and starting centre of the New Orleans Hornets is one guy who doesn’t hold back.
Davis was doing an interview with the New York Times recently. In that he talked about his Olympic experience and how he admires Kevin Garnett. But when he was asked about his goals for his rookie season, Davis said:
“Win rookie of the year. Make first-team all-rookie, first-team all-defense and defensive player of the year.”
That is a really long list of goals for a guy who is just starting his NBA career. The rookie of the year title would likely go to him, and it is understandable for the number draft pick to aim for being rookie of the year.
We have seen that happen a number of times in the history of the league. But that does not mean it is a given, and other top picks will give Davis a hard time in reaching that goal. If he wins rookie of the year, he will definitely
be on the first team all-rookie. But after that, it gets serious.
In a league where Dwight Howard, Tyson Chandler, Roy Hibbert, Andrew Bynum and LeBron James are making news with regard to their defence, it will be a tough and uphill task for Davis to win defensive player of the year next season.
The possibility of a place in the first team all defence is also very unlikely, given the competition that exists in the NBA.
However, dreaming is a sign of motivated and ambitious people and the Hornets fans would be happy to know that their future franchise player is setting his eyes on the big prize from day one.
Davis needs to establish himself as a strong defensive player immediately. The offense will come later on and that is something that will always be secondary for a guy playing in his position. If he wants to succeed in the NBA,
he needs to make a name for himself in the low post and on the boards.
