Anthony Davis most likely to play for New Orleans Hornets next season – NBA News
Kentucky Wildcats forward Anthony Davis is well on his way to New Orleans after the Hornets clinched the number 1 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.
The NBA Draft lottery took place Wednesday night and the Hornets moved up three places to get the number one pick, leaving behind Charlotte Bobcats, Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards.
Davis was awarded the NCAA championship ring in New Orleans on Wednesday and coincidentally, he learnt Wednesday night that the Hornets will be the team picking the number 1 draft in June this year.
Davis won the NCAA championship with Kentucky this year, and was named the consensus National Player of the Year as well as the Most Outstanding Player of the final four. He has been unanimously tipped to be the number 1 pick in
the draft later this year.
“I won a national championship in New Orleans, so why not win another one in New Orleans? I just have to buy into what they're doing and work my hardest” said Davis after the announcement.
New Orleans have not yet confirmed that they will pick Davis with their number 1 pick, but Davis is by far the best player in this year’s draft class and is the most likely pick for the Hornets as well.
Davis’ family was with him in New Orleans where he received his championship ring. His dad had predicted that New Orleans would get the pick but his mother wanted him to play for Charlotte Bobcats as she thought Charlotte was a
nice city to live in.
The Bobcats had the worst record in the regular season and had the highest chances of landing the number 1 pick. They now get the second pick instead.
Davis has had a wonderful year so far. Apart from the success at the college level, he has been named in the preliminary squad for the U.S.A basketball team for the London Olympics.
"It's all been overwhelming. But it's been a great experience. Now I have a chance to play for the Olympic team and make it to London and then be ready for the NBA. We won a national championship, and now I might be the No. 1 pick
in the NBA draft. I've just got to give all thanks to God” said Davis.
Davis is part of the 21 member preliminary squad which will be cut down to 12 members that will travel for the Olympics. But being considered alongside the likes of Chris Bosh, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin and Tyson Chandler is in
itself a great achievement for a young boy who is just in his first year of college.
