Anthony Davis visits New Orleans Hornets training facility – NBA News
A day after the New Orleans Hornets hosted two forward prospects – Jared Sullinger and Perry Jones III - from this year’s Draft class for workouts, Anthony Davis was at their training facility in what the Hornets were calling a
pre-draft workout.
However, as expected, Davis did not take part in any drills and wearing jeans, he was shown around the team training facility. He even had some pictures taken in the Hornets jersey.
It was a sort of homecoming for Davis, an introduction to the basketball club and the city which will become his new home if he is drafted by the Hornets.
The Hornets have the number1 pick in this year’s NBA Draft and Davis is the consensus # 1 pick in this year’s draft class. Although the Hornets have not yet declared that they will be going for Davis with their top pick, it seems
quite clear that he will be landing in New Orleans.
The visit was meant as more of a marketing tool to get interest generated in the basketball club.
“If I get drafted here, it'd be great to win another championship in New Orleans. It's a great city. If I get drafted here, it'll be awesome,” said Davis on the occasion.
Davis enters the draft with a great deal of expectations on his shoulders and is anticipated to be the guy who will help the Hornets become playoff contenders.
Hornets General Manager Dell Demps however does not want to think that far into the future, as he feels it adds undue pressure on the rookie entering the NBA.
"I don't want to add pressure. It's already there. Sometimes, the expectations become so high they become unrealistic at times. When guys come in, they're supposed to be the saviour. You don't want them to feel like that. ... (Davis)
is the ultimate team player, so just let him be a team player,” said Demps.
Davis reached New Orleans on Monday night and spent the night with Hornets coach Monty Williams, talking about the NBA. His itinerary for the day included lunch with the Hornets owner Tom Benson at the Saints Headquarters and
was also shown around the Metro Area.
