Anthony Ervin captures Men’s 50m freestyle title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Anthony Ervin of USA captured gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
Ervin showed no mercy to his opponents in the shortest freestyle discipline as he went full rampant towards the finishing end for gold medal.
The American swimmer faced tough competition from George Bovell from the start but with his strong determination, he managed to outsmart him over the finishing end for gold medal.
With his impeccable pace, he remained just an inch ahead of his closest swimmer and tapped the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 20.85 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Bovell, who stayed 0.12 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing blockade for silver medal by posting a time of 20.97 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Matthew Targett of Australia, who was 0.15 seconds slower and made his way towards the finishing end for third position by submitting a time of 21.12 seconds.
Targett was chased by Ari-Pekka Liukkonen of Finland, who was 0.43 seconds apart and failed to secure his place on the victory stand, finishing fourth in the race with an effort of 21.55 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Cameron Simpson of New Zealand, who was 0.24 seconds apart and tapped the wall with a timing of 21.79 seconds.
Subsequently, Simpson was traced by Jasper Aerents of Belgium, who was 0.04 seconds behind and emerged on the wall as sixth fastest swimmer with a timing of 21.83 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by Francois Heersbrandt of Belgium, who was 0.21 seconds behind and concluded his race in a time of 22.04 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Kyle Richardson of Australia, who stayed 0.03 seconds apart and sprinted his way towards the wall for eighth position by posting a time of 22.07 seconds.
Furthermore, Ervin received massive admiration from the audience for his relentless efforts and said that he would try to please his fans by continuing the same in future.
