Anthony Ervin dominates Men’s 100m freestyle prelims – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Anthony Ervin of USA dominated the preliminary rounds of Men’s 100m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
Ervin stifled hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline and made his way towards the finishing end as top contender for gold medal. With his quickest response to the start, Ervin gained a marginal lead over his following swimmer and dominated his way
throughout the race.
He faced tough competition from his closest swimmer throughout the event but managed to secure top position of the event by producing a time of 47.73 seconds.
He was followed by Kyle Richardson of Australia, who was just one arm-stroke apart and surfaced on the wall as second best swimmer with a timing of 47.87 seconds.
Richardson was chased by his teammate, Kenneth To, who was 0.07 seconds behind and occupied third best qualifying position by producing a time of 47.94 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the event was obtained by Tommaso D’Orsogna of Australia, who was only 0.15 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 48.09 seconds.
D’Orsogna was trailed by Stefan Nystrand, who was 0.29 seconds behind and finished his race in fifth place by touching the wall with a timing of 48.38 seconds.
Subsequently, Nystrand enjoyed an advantage of 0.05 seconds over his closest rival, Jason Dunford of Kenya, who qualified into the final as sixth best finisher by reporting a time of 48.43 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Fernando Santos of Brazil, who entered the playoff with a timing of 48.45 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the race was obtained by Santos’ team-member, Ricardo Oliveira, who just managed to make his way into the final. Oliveira remained 0.21 seconds slower from his former finisher and ended his swim in eighth place with a timing of
48.66 seconds.
In addition, Ervin was contented with his fastest qualification effort and said that he would try harder to impress his supporters by capturing gold medal of the race. Furthermore, the event will conclude on October 14 after all listed events.
