Anthony Giacoppo and Nicole Cook stole the final night at the Perth Criteriums
The final night at the fifth edition of Smokefree Perth Criterium Series came to an end after the splendid performances by Anthony Giacoppo and Nicole Cook.
Luke Davison of Team Budget Forklifts took his performance to the next level by claiming the top spot during the fourth and the final race of the event.
However, the local Criterium Champion Anthony Giacoppo of Team Genesys Wealth Advisors claimed the overall standings after his splendid performance throughout the contest.
He claimed the first and the third stages of the race and also grabbed the first runner-up spot during the second and the fourth stages.
Anthony’s performance was good enough to claim the well deserve overall position and was overwhelmed after winning the leader’s jersey.
He told Cyclingnews, "It's a race that I've always wanted to win, I was looking forward to it, and really motivated particularly after January. Wearing the green and gold jersey, the bike, I think if anything it added a little more pressure".
"I was really happy to be able to get the overall win. The four of us [Sam Davis, Alex Carver and Pat Shaw] worked really well together all week, I think it's a great sign for us ahead of our next stint of racing [in Asia]," he continued.
The 25-year old had a terrific start to his 2012 campaign at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classics, where he overcame Luke Durbridge and Koen de Kort to bag the third stage of the race.
The cyclist finished the final stage of the race at the third position, which helped him with the third overall spot at the final general classifications.
Leonie Burford of Team Hays Recruiting was the top woman as she overcame her teammates, Bella King and Nicole Cooke during fourth and the final race of the contest.
However, Nicole Cooke took the overall Women standings, with Emma Pooley and Leonie Burford claiming the second and the third positions.
Nicole won the first and the second stages of the event and secured the second runner-up spot during the third and the fourth races.
The Olympic Champion is looking good to defend her gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games in front of the home crowd.
The victory at Perth has definitely boosted her confidence for the mega event, scheduled from July 28th to August 12th 2012, in London.
