Anthony Giacoppo easily beats Nathan Haas to take victory in Goulburn - Cycling Update

Genesys Wealth Advisers team’s Anthony Giacoppo showed a tremendous performance and broke through his first NRS victory in the prologue stage of Goulburn to Sydney Cycling Classic 2011 on Saturday, September 17.
Giacoppo took a total of 4 minutes and 35.30 seconds to cover the distance of 3.7 kilometres. In the final kilometres, Giacoppo easily beat his team-mate Nathan Haas with 3 seconds and Adam Phelan (Drapac Professional Cycling Team) finished third.
After finishing the stage, Anthony told the cycling news.com, "I'm stoked, I've come close quite a few times but I've yet to hit the top spot until now - it's really good. I came out here yesterday, and rode the course probably ten times, just trying to
work out the parts of the course that were sketchy.”
He further explained, "We came out here with some deepish rims, because we were worried about the wind. You want to be able to take the corners quickly and still have some straight line speed. The plan went perfectly."
In the race the rider faced two technical corner laps while Jacob Kauffman of the Drapac team was the first cyclists to gain a lead of 5 seconds. Jayco-2XU team’s Nicholas Dougall built a breakaway lead of 4 minutes and 49.28 seconds and was followed by
Kyle Marwood.
In the final ten kilometres, Marwood increased his pace and got away with other cyclists including, Rhys Pollock of the Drapac team and Mark Jamieson of the Jayco-2XU team. In the last kilometres, Nathan Haas tried his best to take a lead and launched an
attack with Phelan and Joseph Lewis but all of them failed to gain a lead and Giacoppo showed some good skills and crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists without any difficulty.
Kyle Marwood (Genesys Wealth Advisers), Steele Von Hoff (Genesys Wealth Advisers) and Rhys Pollock (Drapac Professional Cycling Team) were in fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively.
The next stage will run in Goulburn, NSW and end in Camden as all the cyclists will cover the distance of 171.4 kilometres.
