Anthony Joe advances into Men’s Singles round-of-16 at Australian Closed Championships Sydney
Anthony Joe, an upcoming shuttler from Australia, played remarkable badminton and advanced into Men’s Singles round-of-16 after beating his country-mate Chris Barker in second round battle at the 2012 Australian Closed Championships Sydney on Wednesday,
August 29, in Australia.
The impressive Anthony, who is the third seed in Men’s Singles draw in the event, played to his best speed and showed his elevated skills against Chris and threw him out of competition in a dominating fashion.
The higher ranked Anthony had to employ all of his shots to take the opening game but he found not trouble in ending up the second set and ultimately emerged as the winner in straight sets with a reasonable score on the board.
In the meanwhile, Chris did well in the opening set but remained unlucky in the concluding points and knelt down to his rival in straight games without making a good use of his hard-to-learn skills.
The opening game was quite thrilling when both shuttlers remained aggressive and positive on court and no one could push the other on back foot at the starting points.
The higher ranked Anthony tried his level best to create pressure on his rival but failed to earn any advantage as his opponent was strong in all areas of the court.
Both players progressed at the same pace while remaining toe-to-toe and also remained close on board until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Chris tried his best to put up strong show but he also failed to earn a reasonable lead until the score reached at the nail-biting stage of 21-21.
At this crucial stage, Anthony showed his impressive skills on court and remained successful in taking the opening set with a tight 23-21 score on the board.
In the following set, Anthony was everywhere on court as he did not let his rival to put up strong resistance this time and remained ahead on score board until the break.
After the mid-game interval, the impressive Anthony continued crushing his opponent by playing positive badminton and remained successful in ending up the set with a smashing margin of 21-10.
Anthony won this fight in just 23 minutes with a spectacular 23-21 and 21-10 margin on the board.
