Anthony Kim set for return at Bridgestone Invitational
US hopes of retaining the Ryder Cup have been boosted with the news that rising young star Anthony Kim will make his comeback at next week's Bridgestone Invitational.
The Korean-American had been forced to sit out events on the PGA Tour calendar for three months - the timing of which meant he missed both the US Open in June, and the Open at St Andrews two weeks ago - because he was recovering from an operation to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb.
But with the damaged digit fully fit once more, the 25-year-old has been cleared to make his comeback at the event at Firestone Country Club, in Akron, Ohio in a week. A comeback that Kim announced in via his Facebook page, writing: "I will be back next week at the wgc... looking forward to bein [sic] back."
Kim's return goes some small way to bolstering the US's chances of retaining the Ryder Cup later this year. The world No. 13 was one of the standout performers on the American team in Valhalla in 2008, and Kim was also playing well this season before his enforced absence, the player coming third at the Masters in April, and also winning the Houston Open in the same month.
The three-time PGA Tour winner is currently fourth on the Ryder Cup points table and looks a safe bet to represent his nation at Celtic Manor in October, with the top eight players on the list automatically qualifying for inclusion. With US captain Corey Pavin hardly inundated with players in outstanding form, he will be hoping Kim can quickly recapture his earlier impressive form.
