Anthony Laffranchi reaches 200th NRL game milestone - Rugby League
Anthony Laffranchi, the forward for Gold Coast Titan, has reached his 200th National Rugby League (NRL) game against Newcastle on Saturday, July 30.
Many hope that this special moment for Laffranchi is coupled with a victory for Titans and be the icing on top because the Titans have just managed to win only twice in the 2011 season.
Gold Coast Titans is the newest of the sixteen Australian professional rugby league football clubs and is based in the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia. This club was inaugurated in 2007 and participates in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership,
which is Australasia's elite rugby league competition.
Mat Rogers and Laffranchi both are the highest point scorers with a total of 32 tries to date.
Although, the club has failed to produce impressive records without many wins to associate with, there are a number of milestones that have been reached by many of the club mates in 2011 season. When he was inquired about his achievement, Laffranchi acknowledged
that that having played 200 NRL games is a huge achievement but his focus is still on winning the Sunday game against Newcastle.
When Laffranchi checks out from Titans he will be forgoing his eight-year-old roommate Scott Prince who is Titans’captain.
Laffranchi’s achievements do not end there. This weekend, he will be checking out for his 98th game with Titans and is just behind Scott Prince with 100 games, Nathan Friend with 100 games. Mark Minichiello with 105 Titan games tops the pack.
Laffranchi is proud of his 200th NRL game after his 11-year-long association with the club. While commenting about this achievement in his career, he stated, “I was proud to be an inaugural member of the Titans – the fourth signing at the club.
If I look back on my career at the Titans, it’s been a great five years – very successful. I’ve played all my rep footy here and some of my best footy here at the Titans under Carty (Coach John Cartwright) and the playing group here. It’s coming towards the
end knowing that we can’t play semis and there’s six weeks to go so I’m just really trying to enjoy it, not only the games but just the week leading up at training and just being around the boys.”
Laffranchi also mentioned on this occasion that he is not departing from Rugby League but is finishing off his term with NRL and the Gold Coast.
The Titans have not shown a brilliant performance this season and Laffranchi is more focused on winning the clash against Newcastle on Sunday and is sidelining his excitement pertaining to the milestone for now.
