Anthony Michael clings on to lead in Alfred Dunhill Championship
The Sunshine Tour rookie, Anthony Michael will head into the final round atop the leader board since he is leading the Alfred Dunhill Championship taking place in South Africa this weekend. The first event of the 2011 European Tour would clearly be the biggest
event in the rookie’s professional golfing career since he is close to victory.
“I'm very proud of the way I've managed to keep the lead,” said Michael. “I was a little more nervous in the third round, but I held it together and I think I'm learning how to control my nerves and use it to my benefit.”
Michael posted a 71 at the Leopard Creek Country Club today to finish the third round with a ten under par and is one stroke ahead of Pablo Martin. Martin, who is the defending champion, is the hot rival of the new kid in town. He posted a 68 to finish nine
under and is tied for second place with Dawie Van Der Walt.
The South African golf legend, Charl Schwartzel posted an even par in the third round and shares a tie for fourth place with a seven under. Charl is sharing the fourth place with Alex Haindl. He will also be on the watch out during the final round. Even
though he is three strokes off the lead, he has had one win and three runners-up finishes on this course and can prove to be a threat to the leaders.
As for the charismatic leader, he did an amazing job of clinging onto his lead since the tournament started. Even though the two bogeys in the start were a disappointment to the crowd, he got back on track eventually. The two birdies on fifth and ninth
hole recovered his slip in the start, and then another couple of bogeys on the eleventh and fifteenth hole put him ahead of all the other players.
Meanwhile, Pablo Martin is also determined to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship for the second time. He would be the first player to win the event back to back. Between the birdies and bogeys, the competition got really intense between the two players.
Martin made two amazing eagles in three holes on the back nine and two birdies on the front nine. The eagles really stunned the crowd and hoisted Pablo’s confidence even more. Martin also made two birdies like the leader in the event co-sanctioned by the European
Tour and the South African Sunshine Tour.
The final round of Alfred Dunhill Championship will tee off tomorrow. With Martin and Michael in close competition, the final round will surely be an interesting one to follow.
