Anthony Mundine makes huge statement by knocking out Bronco McKart in 7th round – Boxing News
Anthony Mundine, the former WBA World light middleweight champion, made a huge comeback after the gap of almost eight months by grabbing an impressive seventh-round knockout win over veteran Bronco McKart, in a 10-round bout held on July 14, 2012.
With this win, Anthony has also engraved his name on the IBF North American middleweight title. Before the bout, Anthony had to face much criticism due to his anti-9/11 comments but after his impressive performance the Britain proud has duly become a star
on the American land.
The duo co-headlined the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Vlad Wharton of Millennium Events. The fight card also witnessed Dmitry Sukhotsky take on Cornelius White in a 12-round bout with vacant IBF International light heavyweight title up for grabs.
The event was televised live from Palms Casino and Resort in Pearl Theater, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. During the whole bout, Anthony kept a clear upper hand in fact dictated the pace and dominated Bronco in almost every significant aspect of the
sport.
Whether it was agility or resilience, power punching or swift throwing of well targeted jabs, the ring and the jam-packed arena witnessed Mundine viciously batter McKart. Bronco was not a low-calibre pugilist at all.
The veteran American pounder was last knocked out in 2006 by Kelly Pavlik and since then the 41-year-old has never been knocked out. Furthermore, in a huge 65-bout career this was the third time that Bronco got knocked out.
The aforementioned stats show that ‘Superman’ Bronco possessed a pretty tough chin that could not be easily broken. Anthony did do the almost unthinkable by continuously targeting McKart’s chin.
Bronco retaliated with great force so much so that at one time during the bout it seemed as if Anthony will collapse but the Brit made a comeback by using a sensible game plan of throwing jabs by precisely calculating the timing.
When Mundine executed the game plan his jabs started to connect Bronco’s face. In the seventh decisive round, Anthony threw a wave of powerful punches that stunned the former World Boxing Foundation Intercontinental middleweight champion.
McKart again showed great resilience and stood up but later on realised that it was a fatal mistake. As soon as the referee allowed the two to collide, Anthony moved in immediately and sealed the win by throwing another barrage of jabs.
After collecting a huge career win and after becoming the new IBF North American middleweight champion, Anthony stated, “I was clinical, tactical and I just totally dismantled him. I was devastating at the end. I did what I had to do. I came to conquer and
I wanted to make a statement. McKart's not at my level. He's a good fighter, but he's not at my level.”
Anthony has collected his 44th career win and 26th via knockout. The veteran Bronco has unfortunately received his 10th career loss in a total of 65 bouts and third ever via knockout.
