Anthony Mundine takes on Bronco McKart for vacant IBF North American middleweight title – Boxing news
Anthony Mundine, the former WBA World light middleweight champion, will take on veteran pugilist Bronco McKart, the former World Boxing Foundation Intercontinental middleweight champion, in a 10-round bout for the vacant IBF North American middleweight title,
which will be held on July 14, 2012.
The duo will co-headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Vlad Wharton of Millennium Events. The showdown will be televised live from Palms Casino and Resort in Pearl Theater, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and will be headlined by the 12-round
bout between Dmitry Sukhotsky and Cornelius White for the vacant IBF International light heavyweight gold.
Anthony and Bronco recently shared their thoughts about the Saturday night engagement in a pre-bout press conference. The Aussie Anthony has been in a total of 47 bouts, boasting 43 wins.
The 37-year-old has nailed 25 of his opponents by knockout and is considered as a lethal knockout pounder, the reason why he resides at the ninth spot in the World Boxing Organisation’s divisional rankings.
Mundine has collided with some pretty big names and was vigorously seen in pursuit of Floyd Mayweather before his current engagement. Also known as ‘The Man’, Anthony is coming off a three-bout win streak in which he has nailed names like Garth Wood, Xavier
Toliver, and Rigoberto Alvarez.
In his last clash with Rigoberto, Anthony also grabbed the interim WBA world light middleweight gold. While sharing his thoughts during the media interaction, Anthony praised his aged opponent and stated, “He’s a veteran, he’s cagey, he’s a six-foot leftie,
so he’s going to be hard to touch. This man can fight, no matter what the critics say. I’ve got to be ready, I’ve got to bring my A game. As long as I do that, I know I’m a level above.”
Bronco, 41, will enter his career’s 64th bout, boasting 54 wins with a huge 32 coming via knockout. As far as the stats and technicalities are concerned, the bout is already won by Bronco at least on the paper but in real scenario the American southpaw will
face the significant age factor that might hinder his performance.
Also known as ‘Superman’, Bronco has fought just three bouts in last two or two and a half years. While praising Anthony, Bronco stated, “He’s a good fighter, I’ve watched a lot of tapes. I knew about Mundine years ago, long before this fight ever came on
the table. I know a lot about Anthony.”
The bout will be a tough one as both men are coming off three-bout win streaks. In addition, Bronco needs to prove that he still has got the energy, power, and determination in his arms and body to collide with the best men in the division.
