Anthony Paolucci, the coolest kid at La Jolla County Day High School
2010 Rolex Junior Player of the year played at his first professional event at the Farmers Insurance Open last weekend and tied for 29th place in it.
A senior at the La Jolla County Day high school in Del Mar, California, Paolucci had the best weekend out of everyone. Finishing better than a fourteen-time major championship winner at a professional event, Anthony had a blast playing on the professional
level.
Posting rounds of 70-71-72-72, Anthony finished even better than Tiger Woods, who, tied for 44th position.
This young star was playing at Torrey Pines this weekend due to a sponsor’s exemption that he applied for. For Paolucci, the idea of playing a professional event was grand event as the player didn’t enter the tournament with any goals.
Excited Anthony defeated more than 100 top professionals last weekend. The player said all he wanted was to play well and learn something from it.
"It's just a different atmosphere", Paolucci said. "I've been to tour events outside the ropes before, but I was able to see how the guys travel, all the crowds and distractions. And obviously, the quality of play is much higher".
Paolucci has already committed to University of Southern California (USC) to play golf collegiately. Anthony wants to use his Farmers Insurance Open performance to better prepare for his future on the amateur and collegiate levels.
Paolucci said that now it’s up to him to practice as much he can and hopefully make it to the PGA one day. He is aware that he still has a lot of work to do to become a better and a more consistent player.
It’s not every day that one gets to defeat golf legends and, that too by two strokes. Yes that’s right, the player finished at 3 under overall and beat Tiger Woods by two strokes.
Tiger was the centre of attention since it was the player’s first event of the 2011 PGA season. Not really making a good comeback, Tiger finished out of the top ten for the first time at Torrey Pines.
It was Bubba Watson, who finally won the Farmers Insurance Open. Watson really showed great golf as the player came into the final round trailing the leaders by one point.
All in all, Anthony’s experience at the Farmers Insurance Open really raised his confidence and made him even more passionate and eager about golf.
